How to Keep Your Baby Cool for the Summer
As the days start to get warmer, you’ll find yourself planning out all sorts of fun, summertime activities to do with your children. From trips to the splash pad to nature walks off the beaten path, summer brings with it a slew of awesome, warm weather activities. However, along with making your summer bucket list, you’ll also want to make sure you’re being intentional about keeping your babies cool in the summer heat. Take a look at some of our tips!
Dress for the Occasion
Perhaps one of the easiest ways to keep your babies cool during the summer is to make sure they’re dressed for the weather. We have a ton of crazy cute zipease rompers that feature summer sleeves and shorts, making it super easy to keep your children cool for your outdoor adventures. They also have zippers at the bottom that make diaper changes a breeze, which is another must have when you’re out and about on your summertime escapades.
Plan Your Days Accordingly
Planning out your activities for certain times of the day is another way to keep your kids cool during the summer. The weather is more mild in the mornings and early evenings, and is often hottest during the afternoon. If you’re wanting to take them to the zoo or the swimming pool, do your best to get there during those times of the day when the weather is coolest.
Prioritize Staying Hydrated
As you pack your diaper bag for the day, you’ll want to add plenty of fluids to help your children stay hydrated. In addition to being dressed in comfortable clothing, drinking enough water is one of the key ways that they will stay cool and comfortable in the heat. Throughout your summertime outing, even if they aren’t actively asking for a drink, offer them a juice box or a bottle of water to stay on top of their hydration.
Summertime is basically synonymous with water play, and for a good reason! It’s one of the easiest (and cheapest!) ways to keep cool during those hot days. Search around your local area for fun pools, splash pads, and water parks that you can take your kids to. It’s an easy way to spend time and they will think you’re basically the coolest mom ever, so it’s a win win for everyone.
Make Your Own Shade
While it’s always nice to find a good spot of shade under a tree, you will often find yourself needing to make your own shade. Having a handful of items at your disposal that help you to do this will definitely come in handy! Whether it’s a big beach umbrella or a pop up sun shade, you’ll find that it’s definitely worth the investment to keep yourself and your kids shaded when you’re out and about.
Know the Signs of Being Overheated
It’s also important that you take the time to know what some of the tell-tale signs of being overheated are. If you find that your baby’s cheeks are flushed red, or if the back of their neck is very warm to the touch, they may be overheated. Additionally, if your baby is fussy but they aren’t hungry and they don’t have a dirty diaper, this could also be an indicator that they are overheated and need to be tended to.
So as you get geared up for a summer full of fun activities and days spent outdoors, make sure you’re staying on top of different ways to keep your babies cool while out in the sun. Not only will they be more comfortable and have more fun, but it will give you some peace of mind and allow you to more fully enjoy this special time with your children.
